Striker Glenn Murray has said that victory over West Ham will give Brighton a huge boost of confidence as we go into the final 12 matches of the campaign.
Avoiding the instant drop back to the Championship is the only aim of any promoted team when it comes to life in the Premier League and Murray remains confident that we will do just that.
With a three one victory over West Ham at the Amex Stadium last weekend, Murray told the Official Site that although it was a ‘vital win’ for the side as we pull three points clear of the relegation zone, he doesn’t believe anyone in the camp had been distraction by the fact we’d won only one of our last 14 matches ahead of the game as they took confidence from the points gained and our performances.
Obviously though with how tight the bottom of the table is, the result is a shot in the arm ahead of the final matches of the campaign.
‘It`s massive for us at this stage of the season, considering how tight the bottom half of the league is. When you say that stat, that isn`t how we view it, because we`ve played well and had a couple of wins in the FA Cup in that time.’
He added.
‘It`s always possible, not only for a newly-promoted team, but for any team to go through a difficult patch. But we`ve stayed strong and not lost too many games and picked up a few points, which has been crucial.’
With the game seeing Murray bag his tenth goal of the campaign as he initially gave us the lead, he preferred to pass praise onto Jose Izquierdo for his effort as in Murray’s mind he’s simply doing his job.
‘You try to keep your cool and get it on target. If he saves it, he`s done his job. As long as I get in on target, I`ve done my job and luckily it`s got in. It`s brilliant Jose`s goal, I didn`t keep up with his celebration, but most of the team did! It`s good to see him like that; he can really make a difference when he`s in that sort of mood, and he scored a brilliant goal against West Ham again.’
Murray ended by saying that he was also pleased with the business that the club pulled off in the January transfer window as all group’s need a lift, have new blood added to them and increase competition and quality and he backed Jurgen Locadia to be a big hit when he returns from injury.
‘I go with what I said before, bringing new blood into the squad can be a bonus, it can spark other people into life and we`re now got an option to play two upfront. We`re looking for Locadia to come back, and he`s an exciting player who`s quick, and someone who`s similar to Jose. It can always lift the team.’
