26-Year-Old Takes Brighton’s Historical All Time International Record

Brighton and Hove Albion centre-half Shane Duffy made the starting XI for the Republic of Ireland in Monday evening’s Nations League tie with Wales last night and in the process put himself into our history books.

The 26-year-old defender was on the losing side on the evening but this October break has taken him to 18 caps for his country and that figure eclipses our all-time international record which was previously set by Gerry Ryan and Steve Penney.

He obviously equalled the previous tally of 17 in their previous game at the weekend as they faced off against Denmark.

The former Blackburn Rovers player can take his tally to 20 before the turn of the New Year as November’s international fixtures see the Republic in action against Northern Ireland in a friendly encounter, before another Nations League tie with Denmark in Aarhus.

I’d imagine his record will cause quite a few reactions heaping praise on him as the day ticks by, especially in light of how important he has proven to be for us in the backline.
