Brighton missed out on a late deadline day swoop for Bristol Rovers striker, Will Hoskins.

The 24 year old was set to join Poyet’s team on loan until the end of the season, with a view to sign on a permanent basis for a fee of around £900,000.

The deal fell through as relegation threatened Rovers could not find a striker to replace him before yesterdays transfer window came to an end.

Hoskins has scored 19 goals from 38 starts this season, including a brace against The Seagulls when they visited The Memorial Ground in February.

Brighton may still sign the former Rotherham and Watford striker in the summer transfer window, where Ashley Barnes is the only striker contracted into next season.

The rumoured fee would smash Albion’s 20 year old record signing transfer fee of £500,000 when they purchased Andy Ritchie from Manchester United.
