Brighton’s pre-season ended with a win over Europa League holders Sevilla on Sunday. In fact the Spaniards are back-to-back winners of this European prize having won this both last season and the season before.

Sevilla came to the Amex Stadium to round of the friendlies and the La Liga side were beaten one-nil.

An early first half goal proved the difference with summer signing Hemed picking himself up, having been brought down, to convert from the penalty spot on 18-minutes to give Albion the lead that was taken through to full time.

The Israel international confidently sent Rico the wrong way to score his first goal for Albion.

Albion XI: Stockdale; Bruno (Rosenior 72), Greer, Dunk, Bong; March (Calderon 72), Stephens (Ince 82), Kayal, LuaLua (O’Grady 80); Hemed (Forster-Caskey 80), Baldock (Holla 72).
Subs: Maenpaa, Rea, Chicksen.

Positively for Albion March was back from his injury, which looked like it would keep him out for longer than it did in the end.

Also, despite an early clash of heads with former Arsenal man Reyes, there wasn’t any setback for Bruno. Reyes on the other hand, one of those that should have been among the more familiar household names to the home crowd, did eventually go off after treatment having initially come back on.

Now all eyes will turn to the Amex Stadium again on Friday when Albion’s Championship season begins with a home meeting with Nottingham Forest for a live Sky Sports encounter.
