Away Fans Guide To Withdean

Worth a look if you are making the trip to the Withdean this season.

In a number of pre season interviews I have carried out with other clubs journalists, I have decided to post up travel details and general information regarding the Withdean Stadium, the surrounding area and the city of Brighton & Hove. I hope you find these details useful and it helps towards you having an enjoyable Withdean experience (although not too enjoyable as I still want Brighton to beat you!).

Withdean Travel

By Car:
Withdean is located just after you enter the city from either the A23 (from the north), or the A27 (from the east or the west). Fans are advised to park at Park & Ride Bus sites located at Mill Road in Patcham (adjacent to Waterhall) and Mithras House in Lewes Road, Brighton. This is due to the extremely limited parking at the ground and also the fact you cannot park around the residential areas. Your matchday ticket will provide you with free travel on the bus system which is only a short(ish) ride from the Withdean.

Away fans are strongly urged to travel by fans coaches or use public transport if visiting the Withdean.

By Train:

The nearest train station to the stadium is Preston Park and not Brighton. Preston Park is the second to last stop if travelling down from the London line or is the first stop up from Brighton on the London line if your train only stops at Brighton. It is quite a mission from Brighton if you are walking. However from Preston Park it is about a 10 minute walk and the stadium is signposted as well as there being plenty of stewards along the route.

By Bus:

Services run regularly across the city and you are eligible for discounted travel with your matchday ticket.

Around Withdean

Pubs:

Due to the ground being in a largely residential area, there are limited pubs around the stadium. Although it is impossible to miss The Sportsman which is right behind The North Stand. As far as I know, away fans are let in for the majority of games during the season but I can’t guarantee it! It might be worth your while arriving early and enjoying the many bars and restaurants Brighton & Hove city centre has to offer before making your way to the game.

Places to eat:

Again there is very little around in terms of cafes / restaurants. The Sportsman does offer food at reasonable prices. Other than that, there is very little around the ground. It might be worth your while arriving early and enjoying the many bars and restaurants Brighton & Hove city centre has to offer before making your way to the game.

Inside Withdean:

The new away stand does give a slightly restricted view to fans as it is fairly far away from the pitch. It also has no roof so if the weather is scheduled to be bad, do bring wet weather gear etc. as you will regret it if you don’t. As you would expect, disabled fans are

The normal facilities you can expect are around the ground. The catering is fairly pricey but the quality isn’t too bad. No alcohol is served on the premises.

Tickets:

I’m not sure how much exactly they are for away fans but at a very rough guess in advance, you can expect to pay around £25 for an adult and £15 for U16’s (could be slightly more). You cannot pay for tickets on the day and all tickets must be purchased in advance via your supported club. The away allocation is around 900.
