Brighton left back Gaetan Bong has said that he believes the defensive unit at the club have been performing to a high standard for quite a while now and even though it took a couple of games for the players to adjust to the pace of the Premier League, he feels we’ve kept the stability in the backline that we showed last season.
Speaking to the Official Site as most wait twiddling their thumbs for the international break to end, Bong explained.
‘I`ve played more than two years with Dunky and one with Shane. The back four for the last three games, including Bruno, we`ve had since the start of last season. They get more attention now because we`re playing in the Premier League, but they`re doing the same things they were doing in the Championship.’
He went on to say.
‘Everyone gives their best to play at the highest level. It helps the team when you have two central defenders who are solid, strong and clear everything in the air. Sometimes at the end of the game when you`re tired, Shane Duffy comes forward with his head and boom! It gives us stability and everyone brings something different. From the right side, Bruno is technical, you then have the two big men, who are strong, and I just try to make myself hard to beat on the left.’
The 29 year old went on to add that with us sitting in eighth place after the first eleven games, he remained confident that manager Chris Hughton would lead us to survival this year.
‘We`ve come up from the Championship and we`re doing well. We`re strong defensively and keeping clean sheets is important in this league. You play against great players and everyone can score. We worked hard against Swansea to get the three points, and every game is like that. Sometimes you need to make a choice – you either work hard to take three points, or you open up a little bit more and you can lose the game. We have a very good manager and we know what he wants, which is very important.’
