Southampton took the points in the South Coast Derby which ended Brighton’s 12 month long unbeaten run at Withdean.

Two late goals from Connolly and Fonte gave Southampton a vital 3 points in the quest to finish second behind The Champions, Brighton.

The visitors were the better of the two teams, creating numerous chances in the first half.

However it was Brighton who took the lead with their first shot on target, when Ashley Barnes latched on to a dodgy back pass from Jaidi to slot home on the stroke of half time.

Adam Lallana came on at half time and changed the game for Southampton, who then relied less on the long ball.

The Seagulls lost Glenn Murray through injury and after that were second best. Brighton sat back in the second half and The Saints piled on the pressure.

Lambert hit the post with a free header, before Brighton hit back with chances for Wood on a couple of occasions.

Southampton equalised with 6 minutes left, when Connolly hit a shot on a turn low under Ankergren.

They got the winner a few minutes later when Davies hit the ball long into the Brighton box and Fonte looped a header over the stranded Ankergren.
