Sam Baldock’s long-term future at the Amex Stadium has been secured after it was announced he’d signed a new deal.

Baldock, who will look for a better chance in the Premier League than he previously had at West Ham, has signed a new three year contract to tie him to Brighton until 2020.

The previous deal Baldock, 28, had would have expired at the end of the coming season but as soon as Albion expressed an interest at extending the ex-MK Dons strikers contract his mind was made up.

He told the Official Website: ‘As soon as the club made noises that they wanted to extend my contract it was always in my head that this is where I want to be. Last season was probably the pinnacle of my career, and I hope now we can establish ourselves in the Premier League and continue to improve together.’

Baldock certainly found his best form last season as his 12 goals helped Brighton to promotion, taking his total to 20 in 88 appearances since his arrival in 2014 under ex-Albion boss Sami Hyypia, who turned to the goalscorer after he won the League One Golden Boot at Bristol City during the 2013-14 season.

Brighton boss Chris Hughton added: ‘We are delighted that Sam has agreed a new deal with us. He has been a key member of the squad since he arrived at the club and this new contract is recognition of his contribution over the last couple of seasons. He`s also a great professional and a good character in the dressing room, so we are pleased he will be with us for the next few seasons.’
