Brighton Are On The Button As We Look To Complete Goalkeeping Unit

|

It was being reported yesterday that Brighton and Hove Albion were on the verge of securing Fulham goalkeeper David Button as a new recruit at the Amex Stadium as our preparations for a second successive season in the Premier League continue.

The announcement of Bernardo took everyone by surprise as the expectation was that the ‘don’t go to bed’ teaser related to the stopper.

That wasn’t to be at the time of typing this in readiness for the morning.

Sky Sports do expect him to be quickly through the doors though as we look to replace Niki Maenpaa and Tim Krul and provide Australian international Maty Ryan and fellow new signing Jason Steele with competition. Especially as our Number 1 will be off in January for international duty.

29-year-old Button fell behind Marcus Bettinelli and failed to make an appearance for the club following their early January defeat to Southampton in the Cup and with Button supposedly wanting a new challenge we tick the box.

Having made the switch from Brentford to Craven Cottage he made 60 Championship appearances for the side and he made 141 appearances for Brentford so he certainly carries experience under his belt.

Whilst not a spectacular addition, he is reliable and solid so should be more than good back up for us moving forward if it all comes off. With tentative speculation suggesting Derby County’s Scott Carson is an alternative option, if the move for Button comes off we can scrub that speculation.
