Brighton’s Championship season continued with a two-nil against Rotherham at the New York Stadium on Tuesday meaning it’s now eight without a win.

A first away defeat of the season saw Brighton continue to slip down the Championship table with it now six-matches without a goal for Albion too who have gone from title contenders to a club struggling to hold a play-off place….

Danny Ward volleyed Rotherham into a first half lead when he converted from former Brighton man Joe Mattock’s cross on the stroke of half time. The Millers made sure of the points four-minutes from time when Matt Derbyshire scored from close range.

Tomer Hemed came closest to scoring for Brighton but his effort hit the post, by which time Albion were already two-down with that likely to have been nothing more than a consolation anyway.

These were the other results.

Middlesbrough’s bid to win the title remains very much on track with them extending their lead at the top of the table with the one-nil win at Griffin Park with nearest rivals Derby dropping points in a one-one draw at the iPro Stadium against Reading.

Bolton’s bid to stave off relegation took another blow with a three-two defeat at play-off chasing Sheffield Wednesday. Fellow relegation rivals Bristol City and Rotherham saw varying results with the Robins beaten at Ashton Gate two-one by Preston whereas the Millers boosted their survival hopes with a two-nil win, and further dented Brighton’s (as we know) promotion bid by inflicting another defeat on them, at the New York Stadium.

Five-nil wins for both Huddersfield (who further pushed Charlton towards League 1) and Burnley (who gave their promotion bid a major boost at MK Dons) were very impressive wins!
