It was being reported yesterday that Brighton and manager Chris Hughton had been given permission to speak to Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham this summer.
With the 19 year old more than announcing himself to football last season whilst on loan with Bristol City, he returned 26 goals in 48 games and it’s said Chelsea are now willing to loan him to a Premier League club to help him continue his development.
It is a straight loan deal though with no purchase options at all.
Newcastle United have also apparently been given permission to speak to him according to the Daily Mail but Brighton may have a leg up in talks owing to Hughton’s strong relationship with Michael Emenalo.
Emenalo, Chelsea’s Technical Director, is said to be selective over where youngsters go when they head out on loan, so with a friendship with Hughton, our training centre and relative closeness to Chelsea’s own Cobham training base could more than swing things in our favour.
Whether it’s lazy reporting or we have a real shot at the talent, hopefully we’ll find out soon enough.
