It’s been reported this evening that Brighton may have lost Steve Sidwell for the season following an injury in training.
The 35 year old is yet to feature for manager Chris Hughton this season as he struggles with a long term back injury, but he has apparently now injured his ankle in training and it’s likely he may miss at least a ‘few months’.
The BBC quote Hughton as saying about the injury today.
‘We have been without him for the season so far but with any player, it is always a blow.’
Further details about the injury haven’t been released yet as presumably Brighton are still awaiting full scans and assessments, but obviously following on so quickly from the injury sustained by Izzy Brown and his return to Chelsea for treatment, Hughton will undoubtedly be looking at little closer at the transfer market whilst the January window is with us.
‘It has made us think about things again and we will do that over these coming days. We need to make sure we don’t have a void in there. Sometimes you will want to complement your squad in the fear that you might have injuries in the second half of the season that might change the dynamics of the group.’
Adding.
‘At the moment we have got good numbers and have to work as hard as we can to keep players fit and make the decisions we need to make. It is not that we are not working, but there almost isn’t anything that is close.’
