Brighton have today secured the signature of Jeffrey Monakana from Preston North End.

The 20 year old winger is a former Arsenal youth player and he has joined the club for an undisclosed fee until June 2015.

The youngster obviously started life at the Gunnars before moving to Preston in 2012. During the first half of this season he has had a spell on loan with Colchester to increase his experience having failed to work his way into their manager’s plans.

Head of football operations David Burke, told the Official Site as the announcement was made.

‘Jeffrey fits the criteria for the type of player we want to bring in for the development group. He has a good grounding, good attitude and has the added bonus of more than 40 senior games at League One level with Preston and Colchester. A quick and powerful winger, Jeffrey is comfortable operating on either the left or right side.’

Burke goes on to say that he has 18 months left in the U21 level and the challenge for the player here at Brighton is to complete the transition from that level of football, and work his way into the first team squad and the mind of Oscar Garcia.

Clearly he’s a signing that the club will be hoping is knocking on the door of the first team next season, especially given he hasn’t just had a taste of real football, but over 40 games in League One isn’t bad at all for a player of his age, but it does make you wonder if maybe we’ll see something of him in the remainder of this campaign.

During his time at Preston in all competitions he has made 29 starts in games, and a has a further 20 appearances from the substitutes bench. He has also scored six times for them.

During his loan spell with Colchester he made six appearances in the league, with a further three from the bench and found the net once.
