Brighton have been invited to take part in the annual HKFC Citi Soccer Sevens tournament this May.

The yearly seven a side competition has invited Simon Rusk’s Under 23 squad to the tournament this year, and ten players will jet off for Hong Kong in May to take part in the 16 team event.

The seven a side format sees players take to a 90 metre length and 55 metre width pitch and the competition begins with a league structure – four groups of four teams – and then turns into a knockout format until the winner is known.

Brighton will join last year’s winners Leicester City, Aston Villa, West Ham United and Newcastle United as the English entrants and they will be joined by teams from around the world.

The competition has previously featured the likes of Atletico Madrid, Bayer Leverkusen, Rangers and PSV Eindhoven.

Academy manager John Morling told the Official Site.

‘Brighton & Hove Albion Football Club are honoured to be invited to the prestigious HKFC Citi Soccer Sevens. All the staff and players are looking forward to coming to what will be a brilliant experience both on and off the pitch. We`re looking forward to a totally different experience, playing Sevens against some of the world`s best teams, which will benefit our players` development in their ambition to become senior professional footballers in the Premier League.’

It will be Brighton’s debut in the competition.
