It’s an all too familiar scenario for Brighton isn’t it, we take a left back on loan for the season and could be interested in signing them but the likelihood is someone else, as has happened for the past three or four-years, will come in and get him instead!

This season our left back loanee was Aston Villa’s Joe Bennett, it’s unclear if we’ll look to sign him permanently but if he’s allowed to leave Villa Park we could miss out on him with Watford reportedly interested.

As a Premier League side, and with the greater finances to now back this, they may well get him having wanted him on loan when we had signed him meaning he could go the same way as the likes of previous loanees such as Joe Mattock, Wayne Bridge and Stephen Ward….

Whatever does happen we’ll not have to wait too long before finding out if the 25-year-old is in Tim Sherwood’s future plans as he’s revealed that he thinks it’s best for everyone concerned if a decision on his long-term future is made sooner rather than later with a decision expected within the next week or two.

Chris Hughton, on the whole, was very guarded about his interest in signing any of our loanees on a permanent basis when questioned recently but has appeared more interested in bringing Greg Halford to the Amex Stadium on a permanent basis with his Nottingham Forest contract expiring this summer, so he could arrive on a free?
