Two deals for Brighton on loan deadline day, Middlesbrough’s Mustapha Carayol has come into the Amex, and Jeffrey Monakana has headed out for a spell at Carlisle.

Starting with the arrival, the highly rated 26 year old as the subject of plenty of interest this loan window and it’s said a deal taking him to Nottingham Forest a few days back broke down at the 11th hour.

He is making his return from injury so he may or may not need a bit of time to get up to speed, but he comes in from Boro until the end of the campaign so he had games to get properly match sharp.

The midfielder can also play on the wing so he offers manager Chris Hughton some options.

Speaking to the Official Site as the move was announced, Hughton was delighted with the capture.

‘He is someone both the club and I have been aware of for some time, so we are absolutely delighted he has opted to join us on loan for the rest of the season. He is an exciting, dynamic player, he is quick and direct, and he gives us a different option alongside our other attacking players. While he has played for Boro’s under-21s, and has recovered from the injury, he is yet to feature in the Championship, so it will be a case of reintroducing him to the rigours of first-team football.’

In the opposite direction, Emmanuel Ledesma has returned to the Riverside Stadium himself, having made two starts and two substitute appearances for us.

‘We would like to thank Emmanuel for his efforts during his time with us, and wish him well for the future.’

As for Monakana, the midfielder has just completed a loan spell with Mansfield Town, making six appearances for them, and he now makes the move to League Two strugglers Carlisle who sit in 20th place, four points clear of the relegation zone so it should be another good but different experience for him – having spent the first half of the season on loan with Scottish side Aberdeen.
