Brighton have completed the loan signing of Chelsea’s Fikayo Tomori.

The right back – who made his Chelsea debut on the final day of last season – has been secured in time to potentially feature against Cardiff tonight with Tomori remaining at the Amex Stadium until the end of the season.

Explaining the move Chris Hughton told the Official Website his arrival would provide additional cover to ensure Brighton aren’t left short.

‘We have brought in Fikayo on loan from Chelsea to provide us with some additional cover in the full-back positions, and we are delighted to welcome him to the club.’

Tomori is highly rated at Brighton – with him also an England U20 international despite being Canadian born – with his versatility also appealing to the boss.

‘He is a highly-rated young full-back, by both Chelsea and England; he is predominantly a right-back, but he can play in any position across the back four, and will give us good defensive cover for the first-team for the second half of the season.’

Adding.

‘Currently we have a few minor injury issues in the full-back positions, so his arrival will also allow us to send Rob Hunt out on loan to gain valuable playing experience; at this stage of Rob’s development, it will benefit his long-term progression to be playing regular senior football.’

The 19 year old has also played for Canada at youth level internationally with him also eligible to play for Nigeria so the defender will have options when it comes to international football in the future.

He could be involved tonight against Cardiff but Glenn Murray definitely isn’t going too as he will serve his suspension.

An appeal against his sending off for wrongful dismissal has been rejected.
