Regular first-team football is what Christian Walton needed, which he wouldn’t get with Brighton but is getting at Luton during his loan with the League 2 side

He made his England U21 debut this week and kept a cleansheet in a five-nil win over Bosnia-Herzegovina.

Aidy Boothroyd, who is filling in at U21 level for Gareth Southgate as he’s taking care of the senior team on a temporary basis, handed Walton his debut in the 2017 qualifier at Walsall for an England side that has already qualified for the finals next summer.

No.1 Jordan Pickford was called into the senior England squad by Southgate giving Walton his chance with him now returning to club level to continue his first-team progress at Luton who are under the leadership for former Brighton assistant Nathan Jones of course.
