Brighton look to have a clear run at Niki Maenpaa now that Forest have reportedly ended an interest in the Finland international ‘keeper, who is available on a free having left Dutch club VVV-Venlo, who has made it clear he wants to play in England.

Maenpaa does have other overseas options but the Amex Stadium, as the Argus once again reports as they have for a couple of weeks, looks to be his destination with us ‘favourites’ to sign him following the end to Forest’s interest.

Any further talks are on hold until after Finland’s international programme, with the current transfer talks perhaps weighing on his mind as the 30-year-old was apparently at fault for Estonia’s first goal in a two-nil win in Turku….

His signing, or not, should be known for sure next week and by that point we’ll also know if Nathan Jones is staying on as Chris Hughton’s assistant or going it alone with reports continuing to link him to the vacancy at Plymouth.

In fact Jones is believed to be in a straight out shootout with former Ross County manager Derek Adams for the job at Home Park!
