Craig Mackail-Smith has said he was delighted to get on the score sheet in the friendly against Lewes and he’s now looking forward to a full pre season so he can put last season’s injury issues behind him.

Speaking to the Official Site after the run out and the game, he explained.

‘It was nice to get a goal so early. I think I scored within my first couple of touches, so it was a good feeling to get back on the score sheet and get 45 minutes. I just took a touch in the box and thought I might as well have a crack, so it was nice to see it float in the far corner.’

For Mackail-Smith the run out for a full 45 minutes was his first in 16 to 17 months following his injuries, and he points out himself it’s been about three years since he had a full and proper pre season campaign so he’s looking forward to getting the full benefits of that in 2014-15.

He admits that he’s already spoken with the manager Sami Hyypia though, and he’s been told not to overdo things and push anything too far as fitness and keeping himself fit is of paramount importance so he’s ready to play his part in the coming campaign.
