Okay, that was good timing – Brighton have signed somebody else and this time it’s Czech international striker Jiri Skalak.

The 23 year old comes in for an undisclosed fee from FK Mlada Boleslav who are a top flight Czech side and he signs a deal at the Amex keeping him with us until the summer of 2019.

Subject to international clearance, our sixth signing of the January window could make his debut this Friday against Brentford.

Speaking to the Official Site manager Chris Hughton explained.

‘Jiri is a versatile forward, who is capable of scoring goals. He is a player who is able to play in any of the forward positions, and increases our attacking options for the second half of the season. He’s a skillful and technical player, a full international, and has represented his country at every level. He has played in the top division in the Czech Republic and the Europa League. He is also someone we have been monitoring for some time, so we are delighted to have completed the transfer and to welcome Jiri to the club.’

Skalak began his career with Sparta Prague, signing his first professional contract with them in 2010. He had a number of loan spells our and Boleslav was one before he made that move permanently last summer.

So far this year he has made 16 appearances and scored six times, and his career tally is 23 goals and nine assists across 153games.

He has been handed the No 38 shirt.
