As Shane Duffy prepares to welcome his former side Blackburn to the Amex Stadium, with Brighton returning after the international break, the defender has admitted he’s ‘quietly confident’ Albion can gain promotion to the Premier League.
The former Everton youngster is confident enough of obtaining his Premier League dream but Duffy made it clear it doesn’t matter who we face as Brighton’s aim is the same, to collect the points.
Duffy told the Argus.
‘Nothing changes too much. It`s an exciting time now. These are the vital games, ones you want to be involved in. The lads are up for it. We are quietly confident we can do it.’
Things look good enough for Brighton as we’ve got a fairly healthy advantage – despite the Leeds setback before the break – and following the visit from bottom three side Blackburn we’ll have games against fellow strugglers Birmingham, Wigan and Bristol City among the final eight fixtures.
But the Republic of Ireland international knows Albion can’t take any game lightly.
‘It`s always all right on paper but they are never like that in this league. You can never take any game lightly and in a way they are probably tougher games than the top four or five because you naturally get yourself up for those games, being in the limelight playing against Newcastle, Reading and Huddersfield. But these are worth the same three points against a Blackburn or a Birmingham. That`s the way we`ve got to think.’
Duffy finished by saying Brighton will take it a ‘game at a time’ as we look to overthrow Newcastle’s point advantage at the top but more importantly stave off the threat from Huddersfield, who are six points adrift with a game in hand.
‘It`s exciting for the league. You thrive off it, the lads are anyway. You can`t let go. If you lose you know Huddersfield are going to be behind you. That`s why the league is so good and entertaining. For our sake it`s one game at a time.’
