Bruno, who ended as the Player of the Year runner up, was one of select few offered a new contract.

Only he, Niki Maenpaa and Casper Ankergren were offered deal by Brighton.

Chris Hughton opted against retaining captain Gordon Greer, Inigo Calderon, Andrew Crofts, Bobby Zamora and Adam Chicksen but Bruno was offered a new one-year deal.

A deal he’s of course signed.

Staying with Brighton was always Bruno’s priority so to have his contribution from this season recognised with this new contract meant a lot to him with the decision to stay an easy one, telling the Official Website

‘I`m so happy for a lot of reasons because we are like family here and I always wanted to stay. It means a lot that the club has offered me a new deal and to have that support from the club. I can see that they value my contribution and I`m so pleased to be here because it always was my first option.’

He revealed other offers, so he had ‘options’ but it was ‘an easy decision’ to take up this one-year deal.

Not only were his performances recognised with his runners up position in the Player of the Year voting for Brighton the experienced defender saw his form for Albion recognised by the Football League and PFA too.

The season might not have ended in promotion but he was of little double it was his best performance personally with it helping that he played in such a ‘strong team’ that he’s backing to come back stronger.

After seeing selected by Hughton in all 46-matches we played in the Championship the chance to continue a professional relationship with the boss at the Amex Stadium was another factor behind his decision, adding.

‘When you`ve had a season like the one just gone, there are plenty of things to think about and the gaffer was one of them. I wanted to continue working under his guidance and for me it was one of the really important factors. I am really looking forward to working under him again next season.’

Should Bruno have another season like this one in 2016/17 the veteran could still have at least another year (beyond this deal) left in him you feel!
