Seagulls stalwart Adam El-Abd has signed a new two-year deal at the Amex.

Previously linked with a move to Barnsley, the Egypt international saw his Albion contract expire this summer, but he has ended doubts over his future by signing a deal that will keep him at his hometown club ’til the end of the 2014/15 season.

El-Abd, who is in line for a testimonial as he heads into his 10th year with the Albion, told seagulls.co.uk, “I’m absolutely delighted to have signed the new deal. I love playing for the club, and I can’t wait for the season to start now.

“I’ve been keeping myself fit in the gym, and although it’s not the same as doing pre-season, I feel really good and I’ll definitely be fit for the start of the season.

“The last ten years have been amazing, and I feel really honoured to have been granted a testimonial year by the club.”

The 28-year-old could feature in this afternoon’s opening pre-season fixture against Conference South side Whitehawk, for whom El-Abd’s younger brother Sami plays.
