With almost never-ending speculation about Mamelodi Sundowns striker Percy Tau this summer and some incredibly dodgy games going on in the media with leaks and contract details that were stated to be from a ‘Brighton’ club representative, I’ve long been sceptical about these rumours as readers will know.
The fact the one journalist privy to these interviews was supposedly in Russia and was presumably joined in Russia by our club official when by rights they should’ve been in South Africa, I was correct in calling a red-flag and stating that if there was truth to our interest, the leaks were from the player himself and his agent.
How do I know I was right? Because an official statement by Sundowns on Monday categorically stated it.
“Mamelodi Sundowns is pleased to announce that the President of Mamelodi Sundowns Dr. Patrice Motsepe gave instructions to the Management to finalize the deal with Brighton & Hove Albion FC after Percy Tau and his agent came to see him and apologised for disclosing confidential information to the media and for Percy Tau not reporting for training.”
It now seems it’s only a matter of time before the deal will be concluded and I guess our ‘take it or leave it’ offer is what will be enacted.
Now we find out if he was worth the fuss and whether the behaviour of the 24-year-old was out of kilter with his normal actions.
