The Brighton retained list has been revealed.

Five players have been informed by Chris Hughton they’ll not be offered new contracts this summer, therefore they’ll leave the Amex Stadium when they come to the end of their deals next month.

Looking for new clubs this summer are Gordon Greer, Inigo Calderon, Andrew Crofts, Bobby Zamora and Adam Chicksen after they were told they’ll not be offered new deals.

Bruno has signed a new deal with Niki Maenpaa and Casper Ankergren offered extended deals too.

Hughton, who himself recently agreed to a contract extension, to the Official Website it doesn’t ‘get any easier’ to make the decisions or to ‘deliver the news’ to players.

‘It never gets any easier to make these decisions, or to deliver the news to players – particularly on the back of such a good season.’

Long-serving duo Greer and Calderon were especially hard, he added.

‘In the case of Gordon and Calde, there is the added factor of their standing with the club. They are our two longest-serving players in the current squad, and have each achieved so much for this football club.’

With Crofts having two spells with the club, with Zamora’s previously (before this season) with the club well known so this pair going too wasn’t easy.

Chicksen is one he feels has a bright future in the game, it’ll just not be with Brighton.

Those going leave with his best wishes, Hughton finished by saying.

‘Similarly with Andrew Crofts, he has been an excellent servant across two spells here. He’s another who’s given so much to the club. With Bobby, his history with Brighton was written long before I arrived, but he has only added to that in this past season, with his performances, goals and contribution in the dressing room. Adam is a fantastic young professional, and while he hasn’t been able to break through into the first-team here, I am certain he has a bright future ahead of him and plenty to offer going forward.

‘On behalf of everyone at the club, I would like to thank them all for their efforts and wish them the very best for the future. They are welcome back here at any time, and each of them has been an absolute pleasure to manage.’

Greer and Calderon leaving are the saddest ones in many ways but Greer’s been troubled by injuries this season with the clubs longest serving player Calderon’s involvement also limited but both leaving isn’t too surprising in a way.

Without or without promotion it seemed certain Zamora, Crofts and Chicksen would have left but much as the club has we’ll all wish them nothing but the best for the future.

Bruno’s new one-year deal has been confirmed, news on ‘keeper duo Ankergren and Maenpaa is yet to be rubber stamped but both staying is perhaps a little surprising given the other options Hughton has.

Loan duo Steve Sidwell and James Wilson have returned to Stoke and Manchester United respectively.
