Friendly – Brighton Seal Victory In Final Pre-Season Friendly

|

Brighton and Hove Albion played host to French Ligue 1 side FC Nantes as we completed our final pre-season warm-up game of the summer.

With the Premier League kick-off taking place next week, Nantes was a good test to cap things off with and fans, of course, got to see Amex Stadium debuts from summer signings Bernardo, Alireza Jahanbakhsh and Yves Bissouma as they continue adjusting to life at the club.

Ultimately, we took a 2-1 victory with goals either side of half-time from Tomer Hemed and Pascal Gross as they continue to build their own fitness and form ahead of the all-important league opener.

All in another decent run-out and manager Chris Hughton would’ve been pleased with a number of aspects to our play and speaking to the Official Site as he met with the press following the game, he spoke in glowing terms at his pleasure of being able to rotate the squad over the pre-season campaign to get everyone up to speed.

He also confirmed that although most of the first-team squad is now set in terms of his starting XI, given the performances of some and the competition we had, the final places would be determined based on training over the coming week.

“What we’ve tried to do in this pre-season is give every player equal minutes, but it gets harder as the season approaches. We’ll have an in-house game at the training ground, and it’s generally about managing the players in the best way possible. Generally that last game is some type of indication, but I wouldn’t say wholly, because we’ve got some players that are pushing to start.”

Brighton:

Ryan, Bruno, Duffy, Dunk, Bernardo, Knockaert (Jahanbakhsh 71), Stephens, Propper (Bissouma 71), March, Gross, Murray (Hemed 16).

Unused Subs:

Button, Bong, Balogun, Schelotto, White, Suttner, Kayal, Gyokeres.

Goals – Hemed (37), Gross (49).
