Friendly – Brighton Take Birmingham Draw

|

Brighton and Hove Albion secured a late 1-1 draw at St Andrew’s as we faced off against Birmingham City in our pre-season friendly on Saturday.

In much needed rainy conditions given the heatwave engulfing Great Britain for more than the last month, the hosts took the lead in the game through a 25-yard Maikel Kieftenbeld effort. Summer signing Yves Bissouma had us level in the final minute of the game to take the draw, but undoubtedly manager Chris Hughton will have been pleased with the run-out and the test that our Championship opposition gave us.

The first team starting XI certainly had a more familiar feel to it and a number of new faces at the club following our business over the summer took to the pitch – including the likes of Maty Ryan who returned late to training following international commitments over the summer and the World Cup out in Russia.

Getting the last minute goal, Bissouma certainly gave the fans something to shout about given the hype and hope surrounding his signing.

Plenty to improve upon, but pre-season is about fitness, what counts is how we perform come the Premier League opener.
