Centre half Connor Goldson will now miss the remainder of the 2016/17 campaign after a possible cardiac risk factor showed up in recent screening.

The defender’s potential problem was identified in routine screening protocols and following expert medical advice the player will now have a preventative surgical procedure and therefore miss the remaining months of the current campaign.

The news was released by the club on Saturday afternoon, and manager Chris Hughton explained to the Official Site.

‘This is a significant blow for Connor, and also the club, but having taken further medical advice, the best course of action is for him to have preventative surgery. We will be without Connor for the rest of the season, which is a big loss for us – but this is absolutely the right course of action. We wish him well with his recovery and look forward to him returning for us next season.’

With everybody knowing the potential problems this could cause down the line, the screening did exactly what it’s designed for in spotting this early on and allowing the preventative surgery to work its magic, so no doubt we’ll see plenty of Goldson once again soon enough.
