Ahead of the weekend’s game against Preston North End, centre half Connor Goldson signed a new four year deal with Brighton.

The 23 year old put pen to paper on Friday early evening and has signed up until the summer of 2020.

Speaking to the Official Site as the deal was announced, manager Chris Hughton was delighted to see the former Shrewsbury player sign up for longer given how he’s grown into life at the club since his arrival.

‘Connor had a great first season with us, and particularly in the second half of the campaign, when he was excellent. He has made great progress in his first year and earned his new deal; he thoroughly deserves it and I’ve no doubt he has a very bright future ahead with us. He has been a little bit unfortunate with injury at the start of the season, but he is back to full fitness now and ready to seize his opportunity.’

Joining last summer and making the step up to life in the Championship, although he had to wait until December for his debut, he since more than shown his ability alongside Lewis Dunk in the centre of defence.

He now has 28 first team appearances to his name, with a return of two goals.
