It’s hard not to think too much about the record breaking unbeaten start to the season Brighton have made but Gordon Greer is adamant, to coin the clich├ęd phrase, Albion are taking it ‘a game at a time.’

Brighton are coming into a crucial period (it’s Derby on Saturday, then live Sky Sports games at QPR and then the Middlesbrough visit) in the run up to Christmas but Greer says Saturday is all he’s thinking about.

The Albion captain told Sky Sports he’s not thinking about the record run and how long this can go on for.

‘We’re not thinking too much about the record. It’s great, but we’re not thinking too much about it. We’re just going to go into Saturday and try and win that game. If we do get the good points we’ll move on and see how we get on in the game after.’

The run stands at 20-matches, with one carried over from last season but obviously the league run this season is 19 with 11 of these won with Brighton the only unbeaten side in the Football League heading into the trip to Derby on Saturday.

His thoughts were echoed by ‘keeper David Stockdale, who scooped the MotM award on this site in the win against Charlton last weekend, with him adding the record (or automatic promotion thoughts) aren’t on the minds of the players just yet.

‘We’ve got month-to-month goals, obviously we’ve got season goals but they come more into action during February time when we’re settled down. The start that we’ve had, that’s our main goal now we’ve got to stay there. It’s all up to us.

‘If we do the right things then why not? We’re not going to say we’re thinking about promotion. Yes, we’ve all thought about promotion, but all we’re thinking about is winning games as they come along, and our team spirit will get us through.’

There’s got to be some part (of both players) thinking about records and promotion, surely!
