Goalscorer Tomer Hemed has credited his winner against Cardiff City on Tuesday evening to the fans for sticking with the side through a difficult game.

With Neil Warnock’s side coming to the Amex Stadium and largely sitting back and making things tight for us even though we had most of the ball, it took a patient approach and focus to make our breakthrough late on through Hemed and speaking to the Official Site in his own post game press conference he knew it had probably been a frustrating game to watch (it was to play in) but with the fans never wavering, he wanted to dedicate the goal to them for sticking with the side.

‘We need to say thank you to the fans, we need them every game, so this goal is for them. After my turn, I knew it would just be about shooting hard and strong towards the target. I`m happy that it went in and it was a great feeling to celebrate with the supporters. I knew that I needed to keep working hard and get another chance, my next one was the goal and I`m happy to score and help the team like always. After we scored, they had a few chances, but we defended well and that will always give us the chance to win.’

It was Hemed’s eighth goal of the season so far and he knew it was another crucial win to back up Friday’s victory over Sheffield Wednesday – especially with how hard Cardiff made it for us.

‘It was a tough game and we knew beforehand that it wasn`t going to be easy. After Friday`s game, we knew it was very important to win and get the three points. Usually we play with two strikers but this time Solly March played with me, and I think all the players had a very good game. It was very tough, but we were patient and knew the goal would come, so I`m happy that we did it and now we have to be ready for Saturday.’

With Glenn Murray out for a while with his suspension, the main goal threat will fall on Hemed but he’s stepping up to the plate and it could be a key period for him on a personal level now.
