Without wishing to tempt fate ahead of the game with Leeds this evening Brighton are well placed for promotion to the Premier League which would be a dream come true for Uwe Huenemeier.

This is in complete contrast to the position Albion were in when the German arrived as avoiding relegation from the Championship into League 1 was the intention!

Commenting on this Huenemeier told the Official Website.

‘When I came to Brighton, it wasn`t really my goal to get to the Premier League, because the season before they`d ended up close to the relegation zone. But after last season, you could see what the club is made of. It would be a big dream for every one of us to get to the Premier League.’

Due to injury Huenemeier hadn’t managed a Championship appearance for Brighton at the Amex Stadium in 15 months before making this return in the recent victory over Derby.

That win was the main thing but his return capped a perfect day.

‘It was absolutely brilliant. It was 15 months ago that I last played at home in a league match. We won the game and that was the most important thing. It was a perfect day in the end. Everyone copes with it differently [injury]. I`m mentally strong and knew that after my injury, it could be a long time until I was back in the frame.’

Having continued to work hard in training the German is now hopeful of doing enough to impress Chris Hughton into bringing him back into the side on a regular basis.

But Huenemeier knows there’s plenty of competition for places at the Amex.

‘We`ve got such a big squad and in every position we`ve got four players who fight for that place. Everyone wants to play, but you have to train hard, work hard and wait for your chance. That`s what I`ve done all season and I`m happy things have worked out. I`ve played the last two games and they worked out really well.’
