With Brighton suffering back to back defeats against Manchester City and Leicester City as we test ourselves in the Premier League, manager Chris Hughton has backed the team to show their quality in the coming weeks as we continue to adjust, and Bruno has spoken about how the side will have to show character to overcome these knocks.

Beginning with Hughton, he told the Official Site that he felt we would soon improve after our experiences so far and he encouraged the side to continue to be upbeat.

‘What this group of players can`t do is get their heads down. Every game we play is an opportunity for us to get something. I know our players can play better than what we have and I know they will play better than what they did on Saturday. Most will accept that when you play against Manchester City, Arsenal, Tottenham, they are at a completely different level. But there is a big group of teams in the level below that we need to make sure we get closer to.’

Losing the game two nil ultimately, Hughton also felt we could’ve done more in attack when we were only one down, so there are lessons we can quickly learn.

‘We certainly wasn`t at the level that we need to be on the ball, but we stuck in there and at 1-0 you`ve still got a chance. It`s more difficult at 2-0, certainly when you concede from a set-play, it then becomes very, very difficult to get a result. It always becomes an uphill battle. We didn’t really make their keeper work, even though we had little periods where we got into good areas. We had good crossing positions and we never made the most of them.’

With Anthony Knockaert starting the game on the bench, Hughton spoke of his reasons behind that.

‘Knockaert was close to starting, the only reason I didn`t start him was because he had a different pre-season to everyone else. He didn`t play a full 90 minutes over the whole pre-season period but he has had an input today, an input in the last game, and what we do have now is a midweek game. I will use the players that I need to use in that midweek game and then look to pick a team for next Saturday.’

As for Bruno, speaking in his own interview following the game, he called on the side to show their character like we have done in recent seasons.

‘We need to show it now (spirit). It`s so easy when things are going right, but now we`ve lost two games, we need to show our character. I think it was the mistake in the first minute that we paid for, so it was really hard for us to come back. I think we weren`t that far from them, we got in positions to score but it was about the quality and small details.’

The Spaniard went on to say that what has cost Brighton so far in our two games has been the fine margins of making the step up from the Championship to the Premier League, but he remains confident for the year ahead.

‘It`s the Premier League and you have to score, especially when you are one-nil down. We have to learn from this game and I hope we come back strong. Last week we played pretty well against Manchester City, this week we concede one poor goal and one from a set piece. The other teams are not creating chances; we just need to score the first goal to give us some confidence. We have to improve, learn and start playing some good football.’
