Kazenga LuaLua has told the Argus that the key to the ‘best for of his career’ is Brighton boss Chris Hughton.

LuaLua and Hughton completed a double last Friday when they were named the Player and Manager of the Month for August following an unbeaten start to the Championship season that saw Albion top this going into the international break.

Four-goals and almost as many assists already this season for LuaLua certainly means he’s in the most prolific form of his career, definitely Brighton career, however he’s said he’s in the best form of his career thanks to the support of his teammates and staff around him.

‘To score four goals in one month has to be the best form of my career but I need to make sure I carry it on until the end of the season, not just one month. It has to be every game.

‘It’s a nice thing to win but for me the most important thing is it’s a team game. I wouldn’t win this without my team-mates so I’d like to share it with all my team-mates, the staff and everybody.’

The winger and Hughton knew each other from the time both had at Newcastle, which has also helped.

Often viewed as ‘a bit part’ or ‘impact player’ by those previously in charge at the Amex Stadium, perhaps not even an out and out winger, having the confidence in him that Hughton has shown has also helped LuaLua reach the form it’s always been felt he was capable of.

He added he’s working hard on all aspects of his game but the Albion boss is key to his impressive form.

‘The gaffer knows the way I play from Newcastle.

‘This season it’s just about working hard. It’s not just about when you’ve got the ball. You’ve got to know how to defend as well. For me it’s working well but it’s only a short time.

‘You want to be in the starting 11 every game.

‘I know myself I can play 90 minutes of football but people think in different ways. Every manager has their own opinions.’

Keep delivering like this and I don’t think there’s little doubt you’ll be in the starting XI more often than not!

Now to see, not only how LuaLua, but also Albion react to having the international break enforced upon us? If it’s a case as ‘as you were’ we’ll be back as normal but you worry about the momentum being stopped….
