Manager Chris Hughton has said our missed chances against Walsall in last night’s two one Capital One Cup loss was the reason we are out of the competition.

Speaking to the Official Site at the full time whistle following our elimination, Hughton was clear that we need to be far more clinical in front of goal in the future because he doesn’t feel we should’ve lost that match.

‘I felt we had some really good periods in the game. I can`t really remember a game where we`ve had so much possession breaking into their final third and we counter-attacked very well. They looked dangerous on the counter-attack in the first half and they`re a team in very good form, but we had ample opportunities and got into some great areas. Solly March got to the byline on four or five occasions, but if we`re not able to get those second goals then it`s always going to put pressure on ourselves. That`s what happened and any mistake you might make gives the opposition an opportunity to capitalise on it and that`s what they did.’

With Brighton also missing a second spot kick in the game whilst it was tied at one all, it was one of those nights for us and Chris O’Grady in particular, with the gaffer adding.

‘It wasn`t one of his better nights but he stuck in there. He earned the penalty and wanted to take it. If he scores it, then most people would look at and it say that`s a brave decision because he`s not having the best of nights. Unfortunately he didn`t, but we were still very much in the game at that stage and they were then able to capitalise on any mistake we made.’

With Ipswich up next Saturday and no more League Cup for us this year, Hughton is obviously after a reaction from the players but helping that could be a possible return for Bobby Zamora as he continues his fitness work.

‘It`s a game we should have won, but unfortunately we didn`t and certainly come tomorrow it`s got to be about looking forward to a tough game at Ipswich on Saturday. Bobby will be involved in a training game this week and that will give him a really good chance of having some involvement in the game on Saturday.’
