Brighton manager Chris Hughton has confirmed his priority in the January transfer market is another striker to help us to find the back of the net more often in the second half of the campaign.
Having found the net 17 times in 23 Premier League games so far this season, only bottom placed Swansea City have scored fewer and having failed to capture another striking option over the summer, it remains the priority for him this window.
Speaking to Sky Sports Hughton explained.
‘I think it has to be. We’ve had a bit of a difficult time of late, which is normal. Nobody expected an easy ride. We’ve found it difficult to get the goals we need, but that’s down to a contribution from everyone in the team. We did try in the summer and we’ll continue to do that.’
Hughton also confirmed that we were on the look out for a replacement for Izzy Brown who ended his loan spell from Chelsea early following a serious knee injury.
There’s also one more position he’s looking for greater depth in.
‘We are still trying to bring somebody in in the centre-half position.’
Especially if Hughton can get cover in the backline, the likelyhood is that Connor Goldson will depart to get some game time. He’s only made four appearances for Brighton so far this year, with the 25 year old only making one appearance in the Premier League.
‘We’re looking at the possibility of Connor Goldson going out on loan, who’s a very good player.’
