Striker Glenn Murray reached the 20 goal mark for Brighton in Tuesday evening’s clash against Birmingham City.

Having more than played his part in putting us into the top two with our ongoing Championship title battle with Newcastle United following his arrival from Bournemouth at the start of the season, it’s a familiar milestone for the experienced player as he broke the 20 mark back in our League One promotion winning success in 2010/11.

Speaking to the Official Site having seen Murray reach that mark again on Tuesday, Hughton couldn’t have been more delighted with him.

‘When we took Glenn Murray, what we did know was that he`s somebody that scores goals. He has a knack, even in games where he perhaps doesn`t play so well. He can score different types of goals, but certainly a lot of them are poacher-type ones. If you look at his goal from Saturday, then that`s Glenn for you.’

Hughton went on to say.

‘He has really good movement in the six-yard box, anticipation before producing a calm finish. He`s been a very good acquisition for us.’

The gaffer also had praise for the whole team given the way they have supported and laid on chances for the striker so far this campaign and he knows that Murray’s success is a shared one given their efforts.

‘They`re very difficult to find 20-goal strikers. It`s two things; Glenn has been good for us and the team has been good for him. It`s like Chris Wood at Leeds. Chris is somebody that always scores goals, and in a good season, a team will allow him to score more goals. That`s the same with our team at the moment. This team has supported Glenn very well and allowed him to get the goals he has.’
