Manager Chris Hughton has said he’s relishing the opportunity of seeing his Brighton squad compete in the Premier League next season.

Having secured automatic promotion to the top flight this year, Brighton will be coming up against some of the best and brightest talents in the country and Hughton knows it’s going to be an incredible test for us.

Speaking to the Official Site as he looked ahead to next season, Hughton was quietly confident that we’d surprise a few as we looked to simply avoid relegation.

‘There is no doubt that for any team going from the Championship to the Premier League, you have got to win the games around you, against teams that are recently promoted. You know wins against Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea are very difficult to come by. It doesn’t mean you can’t deal with them, but the law of averages say the way you are going to stay in the Premier League is by winning the games against the teams that are around you.’

Going into the Premier League for the first time in our history, having spoken about how difficult it is to make the transition from the second tier, Hughton knew we could take plenty of inspiration from sides who have achieved that successfully in the past.

‘We speak about Burnley and Bournemouth, because they are recent. But you’ve only got to look at Crystal Palace, Watford and Leicester a few years ago, and going back further, Stoke and West Brom. They have toughed out difficult times to become mainstays in the division, and that’s the challenge.’

Hughton also knew it was key preparations this summer were right and that including resting up properly for the players.

‘I’ll get a break. It is important and I never mind admitting I need a break. It’s a long, hard season in the Championship, a lot of games that are full on. I look forward to a nice break and coming back refreshed. I’m really excited for everybody at the club about next season.’
