It’s already been made pretty clear to Chris Hughton by the Brighton hierarchy that they’re aiming high next season with a top six challenge something that’s basically expected. Is such a turnaround, following the poor season we’ve seen, possible at the Amex Stadium?

Hughton himself has told the Argus, when asked if the summer transfer window could see him transfer us into relegation battlers into promotion contenders, that it is.

What Bournemouth and Brentford have managed this season leaves him of the opinion that ‘anything is possible’ and with the right mentality, and summer recruitment, that can be us next season.

‘You have to think it is. You’ve only got to look at what Bournemouth have achieved, what Brentford have achieved.

‘Brentford have done it coming up from another division, Wolves have done it coming up from another division.

‘Anything is possible but you have got to have the mentality to do it and you have also got to have the players to be able to do it.’

Brighton went from successive top six finishes, and play-off failure aside from a place in the Premier League, to a 20th place finish this season – then again it could have been worse, and in fairness looked like it would be worse when he took over!

Expectation from the stands is high, Hughton feels this is the way it should be and welcomes these great expectations and will use them to spur us one.

‘Any job you take is a difficult job and there will be expectations here because of what the club has achieved in the two seasons before.

‘I welcome that and if there is a real disappointment or frustration from the supporters I don’t mind that.

‘If you want to try to achieve something you have to look for better and put pressure on yourself, the players and the club.’
