Beram Kayal was one of the first, if not the first, permanent signings made by Chris Hughton when he took over as Brighton manage last season and he’s confident about the season ahead with the success this could bring.

Kayal, a January signing from Celtic, feels you’ll not see much between the top and bottom sides in the Championship this season with him backing Albion, and others that had found thee going tough in 2014/15, to ‘fight near the top’ after a disappointing campaign last time round.

Ahead of the win one-nil win over Sevilla he told the Argus this gap would have been lessened further by the quality of players Hughton’s been able to secure.

The Israeli international said.

‘I think you’re going to play against a few teams who are at the top this season who were at the bottom last season and you can see the difference is not massive.

‘We beat Derby last season and they were near the play-offs and then we played well against two of the teams that went up, Norwich and Watford, so I feel like the difference is not massive.

‘The gap between the top and bottom teams is small and we can catch them. That is why we brought in a few players this season. That is the reason why we brought in new players to fight near the top.’

Tomer Hemed was the scorer of the goal against the Europa League holders at the Amex Stadium, when he successfully converted a penalty awarded for a foul on him.

On his international, as well as now club teammate, the midfielder simply added he’ll bring ‘goals and goals and goals’ when asked what Hemed would be adding to the Albion squad this season.

No pressure then….
