Brighton manager Chris Hughton has confirmed that Anthony Knockaert will be fit for the Premier League opener despite picking up ankle ligament damage.
The Championship Player of the Year for 2016/17 picked up the ligament injury in the friendly against Fortuna Dusseldorf in Austria last week but thankfully it’s not too bad.
Knockaert will miss the next three weeks as he recovers and heals, but that should give him time to get back on track fitness wise and come into Hughton’s thoughts for the opener against Manchester City on August 12.
Speaking to Sky Sports Hughton explained.
‘I’m very hopeful he’ll make the season. He has a chance for Manchester City, but we’ll assess it. It’s not serious, but it needs time to settle down. I’m confident it won’t keep him out for a sustained period.’
Knockaert would be a big miss against Manchester City as hopefully the Frenchman can continue the form that saw him bag 15 goals last season as we clinched automatic promotion into the top flight.
