Following the weekend’s kick off with Nottingham Forest, Brighton confirmed that Anthony Knockaert had agreed a contract extension.
The 25 year old winger put pen to paper on a new four year deal at the club, keeping him with us until June 2021 on the morning of the game, and with Saturday playing out with a three nil defeat, news of his contract coming out after the game may have given some fans something to smile about following his performances and importance to us this year as we battle once more for promotion to the Premier League.
Speaking to the Official Site to discuss the contract extension, manager Chris Hughton explained.
‘Anthony has been an integral member of the squad since his arrival in January last year, and I am delighted that we have been able to secure his immediate future to the club. This new contract recognises the hard work and relentless effort he has given to the team, and I am looking forward to working with him over the coming years.’
Having come in to the club from Standard Liege back in January 2016, he debuted against Rotherham United the same month and the Frenchman has now become a key part in the starting eleven, scoring 11 goals in 33 appearances to date.
Not a bad ratio for a winger and hopefully one that will continue for years to come.
