Adrian Colunga is still, at this point, part of the Brighton pre-season plans Chris Hughton’s working with but if this remains the case going into the Championship season seems doubtful.

Hughton wasn’t looking to block his loan exit back to La Liga in January and as much as he’s not exactly forcing him out of the door at the Amex Stadium this summer if he was a mainstay in his first-team plans for the 2015/16 season most of us would be surprised wouldn’t we?

Las Palmas have previously had him on their books, and had toyed with a move for him back in January by all accounts, and if the Argus is right they want him to return.

I wouldn’t expect us to stand in his way if he wanted to leave, he’s already said he’ll happily fight for his place, but the problem we could have is the fact he has another year on his contract with the returning topflight club not prepared to pay a fee we’re reliant on him agreeing to a mutual exit or we loan him out again? These options could end up costing us more money.

Then again the balancing act of paying him off to leave has to be weighed up against the costs of funding his stay with the Seagulls for another year if he’s not in Hughton’s plans – all of this of course works on the assumption that Colunga isn’t in his thoughts!

One that we definitely knew wasn’t, following his release at the end of his contract, was Aaron Hughes but he’s now fixed himself up with another club on the other side of the world….

Hughes has been confirmed as signing a one-year contract with Australian A-League side Melbourne City with the 35-year-old Northern Ireland international saying former teammate at Fulham Damien Duff had convinced him to make the move.

Very nice, I could think of far worse places to wind down my career and not too many better!
