Sky Sports is reporting Le Havre fullback Ferland Mendy is the latest player of interest to Brighton.

Along with Crystal Palace, West Brom, and Birmingham, Brighton are said to be keen on Le Havre left back Mendy, also on the radar of French rivals Monaco, Marseille and Lyon.

With a reported £7m price tag the more established Premier League sides might feel they’ve got a better shot at securing Mendy, 21, who is seen as one of the ‘most sought after’ youngsters in France, having one year left on his current deal.

Monaco’s own Mendy, Benjamin Mendy, has been linked with Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea meaning the Le Havre defender could become his replacement at the French champions, who could of course offer him Champions League football.

A player who will most definitely be at the Amex Stadium next season, even if Mendy isn’t, will be Steve Sidwell after he penned a new one year deal on Wednesday.

15 years on from his initial loan spell with Brighton, when we played at the Withdean, Sidwell will now enjoy Premier League football with Albion, saying signing this new deal was a no-brainer.

He told the Official Website: ‘I`m delighted to sign a new deal. It was obviously the main reason why I came to the club, to get back into the Premier League. I saw the visions of everyone, it was an achievable goal and we`ve done that. It was a no-brainer. After dotting the I`s and crossing the T`s, it was all done fairly quickly. I`ve been on holiday with the kids, so that obviously took priority, but I`m glad it`s all done and dusted now.’

Adding: ‘I left Stoke to come to Brighton and achieve a goal, and it was one that we could all see in the near future. The season before last was a blessing in disguise, we were mentally stronger this year. It`s a nice feeling to be back in the Premier League, it`s going to be tough but it`s a challenge that we should all be looking forward to.’
