Brighton are set to complete a season-long loan deal for Liverpool’s former Charlton defender Joe Gomez.

According to Daily Mirror, the offer of regular first-team football at the Amex Stadium will sway Gomez, who is looking to prove himself in the Premier League after a serious knee injury, Albion’s way.

Gomez, 20, who moved to Liverpool in 2015, made a bright start to life at Anfield before a cruciate ligament injury sidelined him for over a year. Returning to fitness last season, but not featuring since January, the versatile defender only made three appearances.

Brighton boss Chris Hughton has secured the signatures of goalkeeper Mat Ryan, defender Josh Kerr and midfielder Pascal Gross so far, Gomez, who had also been linked with Scottish champions Celtic, will make it number four.

Another keeper is also being targeted despite the fact Brighton currently have three on the books.

This due to the intention Hughton has of loaning Christian Walton, 21, out for another season of League One football to gain further experience.

Before Walton, who has spent spells at Bury, Plymouth – the club he started his career with, Luton and Southend, does head away from the Amex again Brighton aim to tie him down to a new deal, which is down to the final year.

Hughton told the Argus: ‘The interest we`ve had has been League One. I`d expect him to go there. He is going into his last year. We are aware of that and we are keen on him signing a new deal. We want him to stay.’
