When Joao Teixeira was stretchered off in our nil-nil draw with Huddersfield on Tuesday the worst was instantly feared, these worst fears have been materialised today with it confirmed he suffered a serious injury at the Amex Stadium.

It was revealed on the Official Website today that he has suffered a broken leg, which of course ends his season and loan spell with us but will also mean the winger will miss out on Portugal’s U21 Euro squad this summer too.

This is obviously a setback for us as Chris Hughton would have wanted him available for our run in but he also knows that it’s a blow for Teixeira himself and wishes him well in his recovery, which is likely to take some time….

‘Our thoughts are with Joao – as this is a real blow to him after such a good season for the club – and we all wish him a speedy recovery and return to action.

‘He’s been an important player for the club this season, both before and after I came to the club, and I would like to thank him for his efforts during his time on loan here, and also Liverpool for allowing him to come.’

His hopes of carving out a long-term future with Liverpool might have also been dealt a blow as the expectancy was that he would be given a chance to shine in pre-season, there would have to be question marks over his availability for this now though?

All being well he’ll make a swift an full recovery and we could yet help him in this with a return to the Amex Stadium next season perhaps.
