It wasn’t likely Kazenga LuaLua would be fit to return to action for Brighton this weekend anyway but now we know for sure he isn’t going to be fit for Albion when the Championship season resumes at Elland Road.

Chris Hughton had said, last week I think it was, that LuaLua was progressing well yet he hadn’t ever said he would return on Saturday, which we know isn’t going to be the case after what he told the Argus.

LuaLua’s groin injury, sustained in training, had seen him miss Bolton and Cardiff ahead of the international break and it’ll mean him missing Brighton’s trip to Leeds tomorrow too.

Hughton’s said he’s ‘close’ and at ‘a push’ he might make Bristol City at the Amex Stadium on Tuesday but another home game against Preston a week Saturday would be more likely.

‘He’s close, at the moment probably still not close enough.

‘He has been able to do some good work outside but he hasn’t trained with the team yet so I think he’ll certainly struggle Saturday and we’ll possibly have a push for Tuesday.

‘If not then I think we’d probably be more optimistic about the following Saturday.’

This isn’t a surprise is it? Not for me anyway!

We’ll miss the winger, as we had in the previous two-matches, but I wouldn’t have thought many of us would have anticipated his return until Preston, at least, anyway and we definitely wouldn’t want to rush this and cause an injury setback.

Jamie Murphy continuing his suspension will mean Liam Rosenior and Solly March will continue to operate in the wing areas for Brighton, with the Argus also confirming Gordon Greer, Beram Kayal, Tomer Hemed and of course March, came back international duty ‘unscathed.’
