Defender Vitalijs Maksimenko has said that he’s targeting his breakthrough season at Brighton under new manager Sami Hyypia and he knows he can learn loads from the gaffer.

Having spent the second half of last season out on loan with Kilmarnock, and previously having time away at Yeovil Town, Maksimenko told the Official Site that he feels he has benefited from time away from the club, but now it’s time for him to make his mark here with us.

‘I’m looking forward to this pre season and will give 100% to stay in the team. I want to be involved in the first game of the Championship season and maybe the new gaffer will give me a chance. I had chances last season, but didn’t take them. It’s the last year of my contract at this time and I was in the squad up until December. I’ve learned a great deal from my loans spells.’

Maksimenko goes on to say that his aim is to stay here at the club, earn himself a new contract and start to get regular games under his belt now so not only can he develop further, but so he can play his part in helping the club to push on further and hopefully achieve what we all want which is promotion to the Premier League.
