Winger Solly March has spoken of his work over the summer to return to fitness following the long term knee injury he picked up last season.

The 21 year old suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury back in December, but speaking to the Official Site with the players now back in for early pre season work and testing, March explained he was hopeful that he’d be back up to speed by the close of pre season training itself.

‘It`s going well and the knee feels strong. I`ve been working hard over the summer and only had a week`s holiday, so I can try to get myself back as quickly as I can and be as strong as I can. I`ve started running, doing some sprinting and turning on the joint. That`s the last phase of my recovery to make sure I`m confident enough on it. I`ve done lots of balance and strength work too in order to strengthen my muscles.’

Having been at the Amex Elite Football Performance Centre regularly over the summer to work on his recovery, March says hopefully the next week or so he’ll really see the benefits of that work as he looks to step up more.

‘There`s been a physio in every week and the strength and conditioning guys have also helped me through my programme. I can only thank them for their support and hopefully I`m close now and not too far away. Hopefully it`s not too long now [return to action]. It`s probably going to be towards the end of pre-season, but hopefully I can come back as fit as possible.’

With the players returning on Monday from their off season break, he also ended by saying that hopefully by the end of the week he can involve himself in some light sessions to bring him on that touch more.

‘Firstly I`ll join in with a bit of non-contact possession stuff and passing drills. Once I feel confident enough and the physios think I`m ready, then I`ll be back playing small-sided games and we`ll take it from there. Now that the players are back, it`s good to finally have someone here with me after being on my own all summer. Everyone is raring to go and hopefully we can go one better now, that`s the aim this year.’
